Day by day itinerary:
Train-Hike-Bike-Tunkhel village
An active arrival day that puts you right in the middle of the landscape from the very first step off the train.
09:35 Board the train from Ulaanbaatar to Shatan station.
Midday Arrive at Shatanag. Met by your hiking guide for a briefing and gear check.
12:30 Begin the 10 km hike over the mountain pass — a beautiful route through a semi-forested valley of birch and pine, wildflowers, and sweeping views back toward Ulaanbaatar and forward into the Tunkhel valley.
Afternoon Reach the pass summit. The support vehicle is waiting with mountain bikes, cold drinks, and lunch. Eat together before mounting up.
Afternoon Begin the 10 km mountain bike descent toward Tunkhel village — the terrain is open, the gradient manageable, and the views of the approaching valley are superb.
Late afternoon Arrive at Tunkhel Guest House. Check into your ger beside the Kharaa River. The satisfaction of having walked and ridden your way in is very real.
Evening Dinner at the guest house — well earned and deeply appreciated.
Horse riding & Village life
A day that combines Mongolian mountain horsemanship with genuine cultural exchange and community connection in Tunkhel village.
08:30 – 09:30 Breakfast.
Morning Guided horse riding through the surrounding mountain hills — your local guide leads you through terrain that reveals the landscape from an entirely new perspective, higher and freer than anything accessible on foot or by bike.
Afternoon Cycling around Tunkhel village on your mountain bikes, meeting local families and exploring the community spaces, school, and nomadic camps on the village outskirts. Participate in a community service activity — like bring a water, wood to needy family or cook something together etc. English conversation practice with local schoolchildren, or another project chosen together with the village — one of the most genuinely meaningful hours of the whole trip.
Evening Dinner at the guest house. Free time beside the Kharaa River as the sun sets over the Khan Khentii peaks.
